Crystal Wearing Guide
There is a little art to wearing crystals — which wrist to use, when not to wear them, and how to care for them. Here are the common points to note.
Left wrist or right wrist?
Left wrist — Absorb & attract
Traditionally the left wrist is the "absorbing" hand — ideal for crystals that attract wealth and positive energy, such as strawberry quartz, rose quartz, aquamarine and citrine.
Right wrist — Discharge & protect
The right wrist is the "discharging" hand — suitable for protective stones such as black tourmaline, obsidian and smoky quartz.
Eight taboos of wearing crystals
- ① Don't wear while showering / sleeping — soap and sweat affect crystals, and sleeping risks knocks. Remove and store in a box or on clear quartz chips.
- ② Avoid wearing to cemeteries, hospitals etc. — traditionally said to absorb stronger negative energy; cleanse afterwards.
- ③ Cleanse after others touch your crystal — everyone carries different energy; a quick cleanse is recommended.
- ④ Single strand, not double — traditional practice favours a single wrap on the wrist.
- ⑤ Never discard crystals carelessly — if no longer worn, give them away, gift them, or return them to nature rather than throwing them out.
- ⑥ Wear few, not many — too many crystals at once may interfere with each other; stick to 1–2 pieces.
- ⑦ Layering takes care — choose compatible energy combinations; be mindful of mixing attracting and protecting types.
- ⑧ Cleanse new crystals before first wear — new crystals pass through many hands; always cleanse them first.
